MySocial247 AIR application
May 06th 2008 | by James
MySocial247.com the guys that produced the FireFox toolbar for Twitter have entered this incredibly crowded space of Twitter AIR applications. It is an obvious route for attracting an extended user base via the AIR platform.
The application not only contains a Twitter client but FriendFeed integration, just like AlertThingy. On initial impressions this application is lacking the features of Twitter clients like Twhirl and after using Twhirl as my Twitter app for the past few weeks I immediately missed features like being able to quickly direct message someone and view their profiles without firing a new browser window.
What it does have is an integrated media viewer for playing content from your FriendFeed. Another feature is the consolidated alerts window that appears on the bottom right of the screen. Personally I can’t really see the point of this but some might find it useful.
Design Eye
The application does look attractive, especially on the Mac due to the standard chrome although I’m not sure it would entirely fit with a Windows machine. I like the large icon navigation at the top, and the updates look good mainly due to the rounded corners employed. The fonts are easy to read and contrast seems to be good. The lack of some features of other AIR Twitter apps has obviously had an effect of this minimalist UI.
Technical Eye
Built on the Flash platform this is a nice app. There have been reports of this application having performance issues on Windows machines. Stay tuned on their blog for updates.
